Abstract

We are very honored that several leading scholars have helped us to solidify and visualize the integration of humanities into other studies through their contributions to this issue. The first article by Professor Soraj Hongladarom, an elite philosopher, explores crisis in the humanities and the importance of integrative studies. Although this subject matter is often brought up, the author makes a solid and constructive contribution by extending the discussion to the university context, which we believe will be of interest to scholars, researchers, and policy makers. If the first article is to pave a way for interdisciplinary studies, the second and third articles are aimed at putting interdisciplinarity into practice. In the interview with Professor Helle Porsdam, a professor at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Law and UNESCO Chair in Cultural Rights at the University of Copenhagen, readers will see the criss-cross pattern of humanities and law, and will be immersed into a discussion of the right to science, one of the cultural rights, which is the subject of the professor’s recent work. Lastly, because humans are not only culturally bound but are also tied up together by the earth’s geology and ecology, readers will be led by Dr. Casper Bruun Jensen, an internationally-recognized scholar, to an exploration of the Anthropocene Epoch and some of its challenges, including how cosmo-ecological alliances can be sustained. With all of these wonderful articles, we hope our readers enjoy their reading and we hope we take another step closer towards integrative and innovative humanities.
