EFFECTS OF ORGANIZING MATHEMATICS LEARNING ACTIVITIES USING CONCEPT-BASED INQUIRY ON MATHEMATICAL REASONING ABILITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purposes of this research were: 1) to compare mathematical reasoning abilities of students before and after being taught by organizing mathematics learning activities using Concept-Based Inquiry; 2) to compare mathematical reasoning abilities of students after being taught by organizing mathematics learning activities using Concept-Based Inquiry with the criteria 60%; and 3) to study the development of mathematical reasoning abilities of students being taught by organizing mathematics learning activities using Concept-Based Inquiry. This study employed a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The subjects were 35 ninth grade students from Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit Demonstration School (Secondary), selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used in the experiment were lesson plans using Concept-Based Inquiry, the mathematical reasoning abilities tests and the interview. The data were analyzed by arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test for paired sample, t-test for paired sample and content analysis. The results of the study revealed that: 1) the mathematical reasoning abilities of students after being taught by organizing mathematics learning activities using Concept-Based Inquiry were higher than those of the students before instruction at the .05 level of significant; 2) the mathematical reasoning abilities of students after being taught by organizing mathematics learning activities using Concept-Based Inquiry were higher than the minimum criteria 60% at the .05 level of significant; and 3) students exhibited a progressive improvement in their mathematical reasoning abilities, specifically in analyzing relationships to derive conclusions and providing sound justifications to validate or refute conclusions with greater accuracy.
