GUIDELINES FOR ENHANCING WORK EFFICIENCY OF SENIOR EMPLOYEES: A CASE STUDY OF THE COMPENSATION AND PAYROLL DEPARTMENT IN AN AIRLINE COMPANY
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to 1) investigate the problems and causes affecting the work efficiency of senior employees in the Compensation and Payroll Department of a case study airline and
2) propose guidelines for improving the work efficiency of senior employees in the Compensation and Payroll Department of the case study airline. A qualitative research approach was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with five key informants selected using purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed using Thematic Analysis.
The findings revealed that work efficiency problems were not solely caused by personnel shortages but also resulted from systemic limitations, including the complexity of work processes, the lack of data integration across departments, limitations of information systems, and fluctuating workloads. These factors led to accumulated workloads, increased risks of errors, and reduced efficiency in compensation administration. Furthermore, compensation data are derived from multiple departments and are subject to the specific operational conditions of the airline industry, making data verification and processing time-consuming. Based on the findings, three guidelines were proposed to improve work efficiency: 1) developing data systems and data integration; 2) improving work processes through the application of information technology; and 3) enhancing personnel capabilities and workload management. These guidelines emphasize the development of information systems, the establishment of data standards, the reduction of manual work processes, the enhancement of digital competencies, and improved interdepartmental coordination to increase accuracy, speed, and operational efficiency. The findings can serve as practical guidelines for improving information systems, enhancing data integration, and improving compensation and payroll management processes
