ORGANIZATIONAL FACTORS AFFECTING WORKPLACE SAFETY AMONG AIRLINE CARGO WAREHOUSE PERSONNEL: A CASE STUDY OF AN AIRLINE

Abstract

The research aimed to: 1) examine the perceptions of warehouse personnel regarding workplace safety 2) analyze the relationships between various factors and the safety performance of warehouse personnel and 3) propose practical guidelines to enhance workplace safety. This quantitative research collected data from the entire population of 175 employees working in the warehouse of a commercial airline. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results revealed that 1) the overall perception of warehouse personnel toward factors influencing workplace safety was at a high level 2) the factors that significantly affected workplace safety at the 0.05 level were training (β = 0.138, p = 0.034), work equipment (β = 0.158, p = 0.025), knowledge and skills (β = 0.492, p < 0.001), and the work environment (β = 0.131, p = 0.026). Knowledge and skills had the greatest influence on workplace safety, followed by work equipment, training, and the work environment, respectively and 3) Based on the synthesis of relevant literature and previous studies, together with the analysis of questionnaire data, the findings indicate that the workplace safety of cargo warehouse employees is influenced by multiple factors. Therefore, organizations should strengthen safety training, improve the work environment and equipment, promote employee participation, conduct regular risk assessments, and maintain continuous safety communication to enhance operational effectiveness and foster a sustainable safety culture. Furthermore, the findings provide practical guidance for establishing occupational safety measures and improving safety management systems in aviation warehouse operations.
