Abstract

This study aimed to examine and synthesize practices that may contribute to a good quality of life among Thai older adults. A qualitative documentary research approach was employed, drawing on books and academic literature concerning health maintenance, lifestyles, and quality of life among older adults. The study focused on essential dimensions of well-being, including physical, psychological, social, and economic aspects. Data were analyzed using content analysis through thematic categorization, systematic organization of information, comparison of similarities and differences among relevant concepts, and integration of related themes to synthesize appropriate practices for older adults. The documentary synthesis identified ten key practices that may support a good quality of life among older adults: 1) maintaining personal health regularly; 2) engaging in appropriate physical activities and maintaining physical vitality; 3) consuming nutritious foods while limiting processed foods;
4) maintaining psychological well-being and promoting spiritual health; 5) adopting disease prevention practices and accessing appropriate health screening services; 6) managing stress and preventing chronic stress; 7) participating in leisure and recreational activities that promote physical and mental well-being; 8) exercising practical judgment and adaptability in daily life; 9) maintaining positive relationships with family members, friends, and other members of society; and 10) practicing financial planning, prudent spending, and avoiding unnecessary debt. The synthesized practices may serve as a framework for developing activities and measures to promote quality of life among Thai older adults. Their application should consider individual health conditions, abilities, needs, and socioeconomic circumstances to ensure appropriateness across different contexts.
