Abstract
This quantitative and qualitative research aimed to: 1) Study the level of transformational leadership of school administrators; 2) Study the level of teachers’ motivation for career advancement; 3) Study the relationship between transformational leadership of school administrators and teachers’ motivation for career advancement; and 4) Propose guidelines for developing transformational leadership of school administrators. The research had two phases. Phase 1 (quantitative): the sample was 20 school administrators (purposive sampling) and 175 teachers (simple random sampling by lottery); the instrument was a questionnaire (IOC 0.67-1.00, reliability 0.95); the data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson’s correlation. Phase 2 (qualitative): 8 experts selected purposively by criteria were interviewed with a structured interview reviewed by the advisor, and the data were analyzed using content analysis. The research findings revealed that: 1) The overall transformational leadership of school administrators was at the highest level (M = 4.57, SD = 0.28), with idealized influence having the highest mean; 2) The overall teachers’ motivation for career advancement was at a high level with knowledge and competency development having the highest mean; 3) Transformational leadership of school administrators was positively related to teachers’ motivation for career advancement at the .05 level of statistical significance; and 4) The guidelines were that school administrators should manage with fairness and transparency to serve as good role models, inspire teachers, encourage teachers to devise new approaches to teaching and learning, and provide individualized care and support for teachers according to their differing potential and needs. It is recommended to develop the transformational leadership of school administrators, especially inspirational motivation.
