THE PROMOTION OF STUDENT COUNCIL ACTIVITIES BY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS UNDER THE SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL SERVICE AREA OFFICE, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT

Abstract
This research article aimed to: 1) examine the promotion of student council activities by school administrators; 2) compare the promotion of student council activities as classified by gender, age, educational level, work experience, and school size; and 3) study guidelines for promoting student council activities by school administrators under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Nakhon Si Thammarat. The study employed a mixed-methods research design. Quantitative data were collected from a sample of 341 teachers, while qualitative data were obtained from five key informants. The sample size was determined based on the Krejcie and Morgan table, using stratified random sampling by school size and simple random sampling. The research instruments consisted of a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview, both of which were validated and demonstrated a reliability coefficient of 0.974. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and F-test. The results revealed that, overall, the promotion of student council activities by school administrators was at the highest level. Comparative analysis indicated that teachers with different genders, ages, and work experience did not differ significantly in their opinions. However, significant differences were found among teachers with different educational levels and school sizes at the .01 and .001 levels, respectively. The guidelines for promoting student council activities comprised five dimensions: student development, leadership enhancement, collaboration and networking, support for student council meetings, and promotion of performance outcomes. School administrators play a crucial role in policy formulation, resource support, providing opportunities for student participation, and continuous monitoring and evaluation. These practices contribute to the development of leadership, collaboration, and responsibility among student council members, leading to transparent and participatory management within educational institutions.
