Abstract
Research Objectives and FindingsThe objectives of this study were: 1. To investigate the current challenges in employing Buddhist communication innovations for disseminating Buddhism; 2. To examine the patterns of Buddhist communication innovations developed by Phra Ratchawachirathammavites (Setthakit Samahito) in contemporary propagation; and 3. To propose guidelines for applying such Buddhist communication innovations in present-day dissemination of Buddhism. This research employed a qualitative methodology, emphasizing documentary research. Data were collected from the Tipiṭaka, academic books, previous studies, and other related documents, as well as relevant electronic media. The information was compiled, synthesized, and analyzed through content analysis, leading to the presentation of new knowledge.
The findings revealed that: 1. The major challenges in contemporary Buddhist dissemination arise from the changing behaviors of recipients, particularly the younger generation, who primarily engage with online media. Although there is interest in Buddhism, the lack of easily accessible channels remains a limitation. Traditional Buddhist communication often emphasizes academic expositions that are difficult to grasp and provide limited interaction with monks as communicators. 2.Phra Ratchawachirathammavites (Setthakit Samahito) has prominently advanced Buddhist communication innovations through social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and the website WatNakprok.com. These platforms deliver Dhamma content in accessible, user-friendly formats that foster meaningful spiritual connections with audiences. 3. The guidelines for utilizing Buddhist communication innovations by Phra Ratchawachirathammavites emphasize “personalized communication.” Central to this approach is the presentation of the Noble Eightfold Path through various social media platforms, which has led recipients to transform their behavior—for instance, shifting from impatience to greater calmness—as they feel they have received genuine spiritual guidance that resonates with their personal, social, and cultural contexts.
