Abstract

This research article aimed to 1) compare Grade 9 students’ achievement in the topic of pyramids before and after learning activities using concrete materials based on the Concrete – Pictorial - Abstract (CPA) approach combined with context-based learning, 2) examine their learning progress, and 3) investigate their satisfaction with the learning activities. The population comprised 349 Grade 9 students in 10 classrooms at Pattana Wittaya School in the second semester of the 2025 academic year. The sample consisted of 37 students in Class 9/4, selected by cluster random sampling with classrooms as the sampling unit. The research instruments were five lesson plans, a 10-item multiple-choice achievement test (item difficulty, p = 0.25 - 0.73; item discrimination, r = 0.20 - 0.55; KR-20 = 0.47), and a student satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using means, standard deviations, percentages, normalized learning gain, and a paired-samples t-test. The results showed that 1) post-test achievement was significantly higher than pre-test achievement at the .05 level (pre-test: M = 3.59, S.D. = 1.40; post-test: M = 7.16, S.D. = 1.52); 2) students’ normalized learning gain was moderate (<g> = 0.56); and 3) student satisfaction was at the highest level (M = 4.72, S.D. = 0.48).
