GUIDELINES FOR ENHANCING THE SANITATION SKILLS OF CLEANING STAFFS IN THE SHOPPING CENTERS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This academic article examines the definition and essential components of cleaning services within the context of shopping malls. It explores theoretical perspectives on shopping centers, the operational challenges of maintaining hygiene in traffic environments, and strategies for enhancing sanitation skills of cleaning staffs. The study is based on documentary research, drawing from secondary sources including academic articles and empirical studies. Findings indicate that sanitation skills of cleaning staffs refer to professional behaviors reflecting their ability to perform specialized cleaning tasks, operate modern equipment, and apply safety protocols in the usage of cleaning chemicals. It also involves understanding the differences between cleaning and basic sanitization practices, particularly in preventing cross-contamination across public areas. The core components of sanitation skills include: 1) technical knowledge of cleaning procedures, 2) practical experience in complex environments, and 3) professional behaviors aligned with the operational standards of shopping centers. To enhance these sanitation skills, the study recommends a structural approach, including training programs, systematic performance evaluations, group-based question-and-answer sessions, and hands-on practice with advanced technologies. These strategies not only strengthen individual skill sets but also support organizational goals related to cleanliness, customer safety, and service quality in complex retail environments. Furthermore, such competency development carries broader policy implications for the management of all-sized shopping centers and plays a vital role in sustaining the high competitiveness of the commercial cleaning industry, especially in contexts where hygiene standards are central to customer satisfaction and public health assurance
