Abstract
The objectives of this study were: 1) to examine the level of public opinions regarding citizens’ participation in the formulation of the local development plan of Ban Yang Subdistrict Municipality, Lam Thamenchai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province; and 2) to investigate opinions and suggestions concerning citizens’ participation in the formulation of the local development plan in the same area. This study employed a mixed-methods research design. The quantitative component used a sample of 357 respondents, with the sample size determined based on the Krejcie and Morgan table. The qualitative component involved 17 key informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using in-depth interviews and analyzed using an inductive approach.
The findings revealed that: 1) The overall level of citizens’ participation in the formulation of the local development plan of Ban Yang Subdistrict Municipality was at a high level in all dimensions. 2) The comparison of citizens’ participation in the formulation of the local development plan, classified by personal factors, showed no statistically significant differences at the .05 level. And 3) regarding opinions and suggestions, it was recommended that the municipality should provide greater opportunities for citizens to participate in reviewing municipal projects through village public forums and/or local council meetings. This would enable citizens to jointly engage in the management and protection of local resources and public benefits, as well as enhance the completeness of the local development plan, thereby ensuring that it more effectively and efficiently responds to the needs of the public.
