INNOVATIVE MODELS OF STRONG COMMUNITIES BUDDHIST STYLE IN THE NEW WAY OF LIFE OF COMMUNITIES IN UDON THANI PROVINCE

Abstract

This research entitled “Innovative Models of Buddhist-Oriented Strong Communities in the New Way of Life of Communities in Udon Thani Province” aimed to (1) study the development of strong communities in Udon Thani Province, (2) examine community innovations of model communities, and (3) propose an innovative Buddhist-oriented model of strong communities in the new normal context. This qualitative research integrated Participatory Action Research (PAR). Data were collected through documentary research, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions, and analyzed using descriptive content analysis.

The findings revealed that strong communities were built upon self-reliance, participatory leadership, good governance in community capital management, and intergenerational knowledge transfer. Model communities demonstrated innovation in five dimensions: (1) technology, (2) economy, (3) resources, (4) management, and (5) social networks. These innovations integrated local wisdom with modern technology and were guided by Buddhist principles such as the Four Bases of Success (Iddhipāda 4), the Four Principles of Social Integration (Saṅgahavatthu 4), and the Middle Path (Majjhimāpaṭipadā).

The proposed model emphasizes building “social immunity” through balanced development in material, mental, and cultural dimensions. It aligns with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and serves as a sustainable model for community development in the post-COVID-19 era.
