Abstract

This academic article has three main objectives: (1) to examine concepts related to the information society; (2) to analyze the channels and frequency through which the public consumes Buddhist media via digital platforms; and (3) to investigate the impacts of exposure to Buddhist media through digital media on public faith in Thai society. The study primarily employs a literature review and conceptual analysis.

The findings indicate that Thai society has transitioned into an information society in which digital technology plays a crucial role in shaping religious perception and meaning-making. Social media, in particular, has become a primary channel for disseminating and accessing Buddhist teachings in everyday life. Media consumption occurs both intentionally and unintentionally through platform recommendation systems, resulting in consistent yet behaviorally distributed exposure to Buddhist content.

In terms of impact, digital media presents both benefits and challenges. On the one hand, it expands access to Buddhist teachings, fosters the emergence of a modern Buddhist identity, and promotes a form of critical faith that emphasizes self-development and mental well-being. On the other hand, digital media algorithms may lead to limited perception or a “filter bubble,” potentially resulting in superficial faith lacking deep reflection.

In conclusion, digital media has significantly transformed the dissemination and perception of Buddhist teachings, making faith in Thai society more flexible, individualized, and dynamic. Promoting media literacy and critical reflection is therefore essential for sustaining the value of Buddhist teachings within the digital social context
