Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) examine the level of participatory learning based on Buddhist principles; (2) investigate the level of thinking skills; and (3) analyze the influence of participatory learning based on Buddhist principles on the thinking skills of graduate students at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Nong Khai Campus. The study employed a quantitative explanatory survey design. The sample consisted of 40 graduate students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire, which was validated for content validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis.
The findings revealed that: (1) the overall level of participatory learning based on Buddhist principles was high (x̄ = 4.21, S.D. = 0.42), with Yoniso Manasikāra (wise reflection) obtaining the highest mean score (x̄ = 4.30, S.D. = 0.39); (2) the overall level of thinking skills was high (x̄ = 4.18, S.D. = 0.45), with analytical thinking receiving the highest mean score (x̄ = 4.22, S.D. = 0.43); and (3) participatory learning based on Buddhist principles had a significant positive influence on students' thinking skills (β = 0.62, t = 6.12, p < .001), explaining 62% of the variance in thinking skills (R² = 0.62). The findings suggest that Yoniso Manasikāra serves as a key metacognitive mechanism linking participatory learning based on Buddhist principles to the development of higher-order thinking skills. This new body of knowledge may contribute to the development of a Buddhist-integrated learning model for enhancing the quality and sustainability of higher education.
