EDUCATION AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS)

Abstract

The United Nations has set sustainable development goals for member countries to achieve by 2030. This article aims at presenting the importance of education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to which countries around the world have made commitments to develop our world, social progress, economy, and environment. The United Nations has set the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. All sectors will work together to strive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It is necessary to focus on education. Education management must be done efficiently and with quality, affecting the quality of human resources, which is the heart of social development. The nation needs progress on a par with civilized countries in terms of stability and sustainability. Therefore, to be able to drive development successfully, education reform is required to be seriously devoted in all aspects because the quality of education will indicate the quality of the population in the country. This will affect sustainable development in all dimensions. Education reform should cover 1) reforming the educational structure and management system, 2) reforming the curriculum, 3) reforming teacher production and development, 4) Reforming the teaching and learning process, 5) reforming the organization and learning evaluation, and 6) Improving the lifelong learning system. The implementation of educational reform requires quality stakeholders from government agencies, private organizations, and other stakeholders to work together to drive education management in accordance with education policies and plans. Those involved in organizing education according to their roles, using technology to help manage education, use mechanisms from all sectors involved to help drive it, including effective management, in order for educational reform to be successful, which will contribute to sustainable development.
