THE STUDY OF READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY IN THAI LANGUAGE OF PRATHOMSUKSA 6 STUDENTS THROUGH COOPERATIVE LEARNING USING THE CIRC TECHNIQUE

Abstract

This study aimed to: 1) Investigate the reading comprehension ability of Year 6 students through cooperative learning using the CIRC technique. 2) Compare the reading comprehension ability in Thai language among Year 6 students before and after participating in cooperative learning using the CIRC technique. and 3) Compare the reading comprehension ability between the experimental group and the control group. The sample consists of Year 6 students from Sarasas Witaed Suvarnabhumi School in the second semester of the academic year 2024, selected using cluster random sampling. The experimental group includes 21 students from Year 6A, while the control group consists of 22 students from Year 6C. The research instruments include 12 cooperative learning lesson plans based on the CIRC technique and a multiple-choice reading comprehension test consisting of 30 items, with a reliability coefficient of .89. The statistical methods used for data analysis include percentage, mean, standard deviation, dependent sample t-test, and independent sample t-test.

           The results were as follows: 1) The reading comprehension ability of Year 6 students who participated in cooperative learning using the CIRC technique was at a good or higher level, with 85.72% of students achieving this standard. 2) The post-test scores of Year 6 students after participating in cooperative learning using the CIRC technique were significantly higher than their pre-test scores at the .05 significance level. 3) The experimental group, which received instruction through cooperative learning using the CIRC technique, had significantly higher reading comprehension scores than the control group, which received traditional instruction, at the .05 significance level.
