PROMOTING STUDENT ACTIVITIES THROUGH BUDDHIST-BASED MORAL CLINIC CURRICULUM: A CASE STUDY OF TESSABAN 1 BAN SADAO SCHOOL, SADAO DISTRICT, SONGKHLA PROVINCE

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the concepts and theories related to promoting student activities at Tessaban 1 Ban Sadao School in Songkhla Province, 2) examine the Buddhist-based Moral Clinic Curriculum, and 3) analyze the promotion of student activities through this curriculum within the school’s context. The study employed a qualitative research methodology, with data collected from documents and in-depth interviews with 16 key informants, selected through purposive sampling. The informants comprised four groups: Buddhist scholars, school administrators, students, and parents, ensuring a diversity of perspectives and in-depth insights. The primary research instrument was a semi-structured interview form. Data were analyzed using content analysis and thematic analysis, involving the processes of coding and theme development for deep interpretation.

The research findings revealed that: 1) In the dimension of morality (sila), students became more polite in their speech, increasingly respected rules and regulations, demonstrated greater responsibility, discipline, and humility. 2) In the dimension of concentration (samadhi), students showed improved attention in class, better emotional regulation, and enhanced mindfulness through breathing techniques, resulting in greater mental stability and focus. 3) In the dimension of wisdom (panya), students reflected more carefully before making decisions, developed clearer life goals, became more self-aware, and demonstrated improved critical thinking and understanding of life.
