Abstract

This academic article aims to analyze and synthesize knowledge concerning the processes and practical skills in counseling and therapy based on the Satir Model, presenting a systematic and trainable framework applicable in professional contexts. The content integrates the Iceberg Metaphor of psychological structure and the process of change with practical skills, organizing the therapeutic process into three phases comprising five sequential steps: the Beginning Phase, which emphasizes therapist preparation, Making Contact, and Validating in order to establish a foundation of psychological safety; the Middle Phase, which serves as the core of transformation and focuses on Facilitating Awareness, Challenging dysfunctional patterns, and Teaching New Options; and the Ending Phase, which emphasizes Empowering, Guiding Practice, and Anchoring change to ensure its sustainability. The article concludes that the congruent Use of Self by the counselor or therapist, in conjunction with phase-specific skills, constitutes a key mechanism bridging Satir philosophy with real-world counseling and therapeutic practice, ultimately fostering growth and transformational change in the client.
