Abstract
This research aims to (1) study the level of elderly-friendly public service provision, (2) compare elderly-friendly public service provision classified by personal factors, (3) study the factors affecting elderly-friendly public service provision, and (4) present guidelines for elderly-friendly public service provision. It was a mixed-methods research, collecting data from 400 elderly people in the municipal area of Pathum Thani Province and conducting in-depth interviews with 29 elderly people. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis.
The results showed that (1) the municipality provided elderly-friendly public services overall at a high level; (2) elderly people with different levels of education, work experience, number of children, and living problems had significantly different opinions on the provision of public services at the .05 statistical significance level, which was consistent with the hypothesis; and (3) all welfare factors together explained 27.70% of the elderly-friendly public service provision (Adj. R2= .277), with the most influential factor being the support network, followed by health and medical care. Social security and recreation, which had a statistically significant effect at the .01 level, while income had a statistically significant effect at the .05 level, and (4) guidelines for providing elderly-friendly public services, consisting of 1) coordinating the employment of elderly workers, 2) allocating a budget for loans in case the elderly want to be self-employed, 3) creating a job application specifically for the elderly in each locality, and 4) providing vocational training according to the needs of the elderly.
