บทคัดย่อ
งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาบทบาทของเส้นทางสายไหมในฐานะกลไกสำคัญของโลกาภิวัตน์ยุคต้น โดยมุ่งวิเคราะห์กระบวนการแลกเปลี่ยนวัฒนธรรมระหว่างโลกตะวันออกและตะวันตกผ่านการเคลื่อนย้ายสินค้า ผู้คน ความเชื่อ และองค์ความรู้ตั้งแต่สมัยโบราณจนถึงยุคกลาง ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยใช้การวิจัยเชิงเอกสาร (Documentary research) โดยอาศัยเอกสารชั้นต้นและเอกสารชั้นรอง เช่น พงศาวดาร บันทึกการเดินทาง และงานศึกษาทางประวัติศาสตร์โลก วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยวิธีการวิเคราะห์เชิงเนื้อหาและการเปรียบเทียบเชิงประวัติศาสตร์
ผลการวิจัย พบว่า เส้นทางสายไหมมิได้เป็นเพียงเครือข่ายการค้าเท่านั้น หากแต่เป็นพื้นที่ปฏิสัมพันธ์ทางวัฒนธรรมซึ่งเอื้อต่อการแพร่กระจายของศาสนา : พระพุทธศาสนา คริสต์ศาสนา และศาสนาอิสลาม รวมถึงการถ่ายทอดเทคโนโลยี เช่น การทำกระดาษ ดินปืน และเข็มทิศ ตลอดจนศิลปะและรูปแบบทางสังคมที่หล่อหลอมรวมกันเป็นอารยธรรมแบบพหุวัฒนธรรม ผลการศึกษาชี้ให้เห็นว่าโลกาภิวัตน์มิใช่ปรากฏการณ์สมัยใหม่เท่านั้น แต่มีรากฐานยาวนานตั้งแต่ยุคก่อนสมัยใหม่ และเส้นทางสายไหมเป็นต้นแบบสำคัญของเครือข่ายโลกยุคแรก การศึกษานี้เสนอว่า การทำความเข้าใจเส้นทางสายไหมในฐานะกระบวนการโลกาภิวัตน์ยุคต้นช่วยเปิดมุมมองใหม่ต่อประวัติศาสตร์โลก โดยเน้นบทบาทของการติดต่อข้ามวัฒนธรรมมากกว่าการมองประวัติศาสตร์แบบแยกภูมิภาค และสามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ในการศึกษาปรากฏการณ์โลกาภิวัตน์ร่วมสมัยในเชิงเปรียบเทียบได้
