Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the lived experiences and meaning-making of creative communication among upper secondary school teachers and students through Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The key informants consisted of four teachers and four students. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and field notes and analyzed through six stages: (1) reading and re-reading, (2) initial noting, (3) developing emergent themes, (4) refining themes, (5) individual case analysis, and (6) cross-case analysis.
The findings revealed:
1. Experiences: Creative communication was grounded in psychological safety, which was co-constructed through dialogic teaching and a non-judgmental learning environment.
2. Meaning-making: Teachers perceived creative communication as a purposeful and strategic form of communication aimed at fostering openness, supporting learning, and managing classroom situations, whereas students viewed it as a means of promoting social change.
3. Outcomes: Creative communication contributed to the development of teachers’ professional identity and students’ personal identity as socially responsible These findings extend current understanding of creative communication in educational contexts and provide implications for curriculum design, instructional practices, and the development of learning environments that support creative communication.
