Abstract

This research aimed to (1) develop and evaluate the efficiency of a board game designed to promote learning of the Ayutthaya Kingdom among Grade 8 students based on the 80/80 efficiency criterion; (2) compare students’ learning achievement before and after the intervention; and (3) examine students’ satisfaction with the use of the board game in history learning.
The sample consisted of 30 Grade 8 students from Wat Sri Samosorn School, under the Pathum Thani Primary Educational Service Area Office 2, selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments included a pre-test and post-test, a board game efficiency evaluation form, and a student satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and a paired-samples t-test.
The research findings revealed that:
1. The board game achieved an efficiency score (E1/E2) of 85.00/98.33, exceeding the established 80/80 criterion.
2. Students' post-test scores (M = 16.33) were significantly higher than their pre-test scores (M = 8.63) at a .05 level of statistical significance, with a mean difference of 7.73, indicating that the board game effectively enhanced students’ historical knowledge of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.
3. Overall, students’ satisfaction with the board game was at a high level. The highest-rated aspect was the board game’s alignment with learning about the Ayutthaya Kingdom, whereas the lowest-rated aspects were the appropriateness of the game duration and the extent to which the game encouraged students to communicate and collaborate with their peers.
