"food security" and insecure communication

Abstract

This article aims to study the meaning, knowledge, and understanding of food security in various dimensions, as well as the knowledge of food security from documents related to research and texts. The study found that the development of "Food security" has changed through the world context and was divided into 3 periods as follows: 1) the 1970s, food security and production processes, the importance of food production has been emphasized to ensure that food is sufficient for consumers, 2) the 1980s, food security and access, expanding the scope of access to food from the macro level to the individual level, and 3) in the 1990s, food security and food safety. In this decade, food security also extends to nutritional value, safety, and nutritional balance.

Currently, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has four components that make up the definition of "food security": 1) Food Availability, 2) Food Access, 3) Food Utilization, and 4) Food Stability. These criteria of food security may not be sufficient to conclude whether the situation in Thailand, because there are still many limitations such as environmental conditions. imbalance between producer and consumer.

The literature review also found that The study of food security spans a wide range of fields, including political science, law, government, economics, and environmental management. Most of them focused on the producer and consumer sectors but lacked a communication dimension to their understanding of food security.
