Errors in Translation English to Thai translation error: A case of English major students at Naresuan University

The study aimed to demonstrate types of translation errors commonly found among the second and third year English major students, Naresuan University. The categorization made were based on The American Translators Association’s errors grid. The findings showed that the most dominant type of errors was Meaning Transfer (53.32%), followed by Writing Ability and Style (28.91%), and Mechanism (17.77%). It suggested that grammatical competence was not sufficient for effective translation. Indeed, background knowledge, vocabulary repertoire, and register usage were required in order to improve translators’ abilities
