Abstract

Morphology is the study of the structure of words and the smallest meaning-bearing units and how they combine into words. The term morphology is widely attributed to the German poet, novelist, playwright, and philosopher (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe 1749-1832), who coined it in a biological context early in the nineteenth century. Its Etymology is Greek: morph- means shape, form. Morphology is the study of shapes and forms. Form or form studies Morphology in biology refers to the study of the organisms' form and structure, and in geology, it refers to the study of the arrangement and evolution of landforms. In linguistics, morphology refers to the part of the brain that is involved in word formation or the branch of linguistics concerned with words, their internal structure, and how they function.
