Abstract

The research aimed to compare the students’ understanding of chemical reactions before and after the use of 5E instructional model in combination with the interactive PhET simulation. Three lessons covering 18 hours designed based on 5E instructional model in combination with the interactive PhET simulation of chemical reaction rates were taught to 37 grade 10 students of sciences and mathematics program . A scientific concept test and student’s behavior observation were used for data collection. The statistics used in the analysis were mean, Standard Deviation, and t-test. The results showed that students studying with the 5E instructional model combined with the interactive PhET simulation had statistically higher post-test scientific concepts scores at the statistical significance level of .05.
