Autoethnography: Self-reflection on Learning Experiences from My Teacher
Keywords:
Autoethnography, Self-reflection, Learning experiencesAbstract
This article aims to reflect the learning experience on the topic of Autoethnography from my teacher who specializes in the research methodology and has an important role in keeping me open to learning new things which transform my inner self. The results of the study found that Autoethnography is not only a methodology but also a research process and a research report writing and presentation which emphasis on three main research elements: Auto (the self), Ethno (the cultural link), Graphy (the research process). It helped displaying the multi and overlapping layers of consciousness when a person has conflict emotions, feelings, and actions. These conflicts are caused by three layers of consciousness which are pre-consciousness, common consciousness, and unconsciousness. The distinctive feature of Autoethnography is the ability to access meanings as an insider. Being able to become a part of the social world that we study allow researchers to access certain information much better. The hearts of Autoethnography are choosing the topic, writing a story, and inspecting the quality of the research. The existing information from the research should be considered whether it has already well covered the research topic, it clearly responded to every item in the research objectives and it is strong and convincing enough for readers with no prior experience about the topic to feel interested in. The verification process can be done by discussing and examining stories, concepts, theories, and works of others. These processes are essential to clearly and reliably deliver the information and to successfully communicate the main objectives to the readers.
