A Development of Mathematical Learning Activities for Grade 9 Students on Word Problem Solving Quadratic Equations in One Variable Using Simulations in Collaboration with the Gather Town Program

Abstract

          The goals of this study were to: 1) determine the efficiency of mathematics learning activities on problem-solving of single-variable quadratic equations using a simulation through the Gather Town program for Grade 9 students using the 70/70 criterion; 2) compare learning achievements on problem-solving of quadratic equations with one variable before and after learning by utilizing a simulation through the Gather Town program for Grade 9 students; and 3) investigate mathematics satisfaction. The research target group was 28 students in Grade 9 in the first semester of the academic year 2022 at Samchai School, Samchai District, Kalasin Province, using group random sampling. Research tools included learning management plans, learning activities in the Gather Town program satisfaction questionnaire, and a problem-solving test. Statistics for data analysis were percentages, mean, standard deviation, and t-test.

          The results showed that the efficiency of the mathematics learning activity on solving quadratic equations with one variable utilizing a simulation through the Gather Town program for Grade 9 students was 86.88/85.70, which was higher than the specified criteria of 70/7. The Grade 9 students made better progress in problem-solving skills after utilizing the aforementioned activity, with statistical significance at the level of.05. The students' satisfaction with the mathematics learning activity on problem solving quadratic equations with one variable simulation through the Gather Town program was at a high level.
