The Creation Activities Packages by Using Box Method for Develop Learning Outcomes in Mathematics of Lower Secondary Education Level Grades 8 Students

Abstract

             The objectives of this research were 1) to create and evaluate the effectiveness of the activities packages by using box method on factoring quadratics, and 2) to enhance students' knowledge and problem-solving skills in mathematics from using the activities packages by using box method on factoring quadratics. The research employed an action research methodology. The sample consisted of 21 Grade 8 students from Wat Buak Khrok Nuea School in the second semester of the 2023 academic year selected through cluster sampling. The research instruments were 1) the activities packages by using box method on factoring quadratics 2) the knowledge achievement test, and 3) mathematic problem-solving skill tests. The statistics used to analyze the data were mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variation and t-test statistics.

             The research results concluded that 1) the activities packages by using box method on factoring quadratics included: (1) factoring using the distributive property (2) factoring using the box method (3) box method with perfect squares, and (4) box method with difference of two squares. The evaluation results of all the activities packages by using box method on factoring quadratics were at the highest level 2) students’ knowledge after using the learning activities was significantly higher than before, with the t-test results showing a statistically significant increase at the .01 level. 3) students’ mathematical problem-solving skills after using the learning activities exceeded 60 percent of the total score, with the statistically significant at .01 level.
