Abstract

Human resource potentialities appertain to the maximum actualization of latent individual capabilities. Current capability may not yet be the highest capability of an individual. Full development of latent capabilities constitutes actualizing an individual’s full potential. Individual competency clearly emerges if work performance matches the position held by the individual. Current capabilities may well not be indicative of an individual’s complete range of capabilities. A person can continuously perform better and better. When an individual’s capabilities are manifested at a maximum level, it is called actualizing one’s full potential.

The conceptual framework of The Performance and Potential Matrix, 9-Box Model, is an instrument widely used by organizations in successful planning and development. This conceptual framework subsumes personnel under the rubrics of two dimensions: work performance and potentialities. This concerns current capabilities and knowledge as shown in current work performance, thereby being linked with the actual state of affairs and ideal projections.

In order to evaluate the potential development of personnel after a concrete fashion, organizations require clearly designated key performance indicators. This will allow easier and fair evaluations. Indicators must be grounded in constant behaviors that can be observed and measured. In designing measurement methods, a prime desideratum is who will be the evaluator. In general, the evaluator should be a superior who can select persons who have the potential to grow such that the maximum growth for the organization is ensured in the future.
