Local Wisdom of Sumut Prakan Province

Abstract

Development of a potent community should be begun with local wisdom of people in the community by applying and integrating local environments and resources to international knowledge. Educating the issues of local wisdom in schools has to be pertinent with changing modern lifestyle. Samut Prakan Province sits next to Chao Phraya River and Gulf of Thailand. It is a river plain that fits for firewood plants. Due to sitting near the sea, it has Mangrove forest that contains Rhizophora and Cycad and is alive with various kinds of birds. This makes traveling site for bird watchers and creates jobs such as making charcoal, making roof materials from Nipa Palm leaves, making Thai sweets called Khanom Jaak, and making mosquito whips. In addition, some original careers are transformed to fit modern time, for example, primal fishery is transformed to eco marine travelling business or Gourami fish farm is adapted by bringing fresh fish into some processes before selling.
