Abstract

There were 6 mergers and acquisitions (M & A) of commercial banks listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand during 2008 – 2015. This study analyzed financial performance before and after the M & A. The paired t-test technique was used to test hypotheses. Financial ratios were used in 5 areas including 1) profitability, 2) operating efficiency, 3) financial policy, 4) liquidity, and 5) wealth of shareholders. Annual data were used 3 years before and 3 years after the M & A. The study found that there were 4 banks that increased shareholder wealth from net income after the M & A including TCAP (Thanachart Capital Public Company Limited), SCB (Siam Commercial Bank Public Company Limited), BBL (Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited), and BAY (Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited).
