History of DR.KEN Institute of Academic Development and Promotion
DR.KEN Institute of Academic Development and Promotion is a Thailand-based academic institute established in 2019 to strengthen research capacity, academic professionalism, and the dissemination of scholarly knowledge through ethical, standards-based academic activities and publishing. The Institute was founded by a network that comprises both Thai and international academics, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Sanya Kenaphoom as the leading figure. with a clear purpose: to create a credible academic environment that supports educators, researchers, and graduate students in developing research competence and communicating research outcomes responsibly to national and international audiences.
From the beginning, the Institute positioned its work around two core pillars: (1) academic capacity development and (2) scholarly publishing and dissemination. This dual focus reflects the Institute’s belief that sustainable academic progress requires both the strengthening of researchers’ skills and the availability of reliable publishing channels that operate under transparent editorial governance and internationally recognized ethical standards.
1) Foundation and Early Development (2019–2020)
After its establishment in 2019, the Institute initially concentrated on capacity building for the academic community—particularly educators and early-career researchers—through activities that support research literacy and publication readiness. Key areas of support included:
- Research methodology and research design (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods)
- Academic writing and scholarly communication (structure, argumentation, citation practices)
- Data analysis readiness and reporting standards
- Publication preparation and responsible authorship practices
- Guidance on journal selection and submission processes
These early initiatives helped form a practical foundation for the Institute’s next stage: developing and managing scholarly journals that reflect international publishing norms.
2) Transition to Scholarly Publishing and Journal Development (Sequential Growth)
As the Institute’s academic network grew, the need for reliable publication pathways became more evident—particularly those that could serve both Thai and international scholars while maintaining strong editorial standards. In response, the Institute gradually expanded into scholarly publishing, leading to the establishment and management of three peer-reviewed academic journals in a clear sequence (first → second → most recent):
(1) International Academic Research Journal (IARJ) — First initiative

IARJ was the Institute’s first formal publishing initiative. It served as an interdisciplinary scholarly platform and a foundational step in developing the Institute’s editorial operations, including the formation of editorial workflows, reviewer coordination practices, and publication quality assurance. The journal supported the Institute’s early goal of strengthening academic writing and enabling wider dissemination of research outputs.
(2) International Journal of Social and Administrative Sciences Research (IJSASR) — Second initiative

Building upon the experience gained from IARJ, the Institute then established IJSASR to provide a more focused platform for research in social sciences and administrative sciences. This stage deepened the Institute’s publishing capacity by strengthening editorial governance, expanding reviewer networks, and reinforcing quality control procedures—especially in areas such as research ethics, citation accuracy, and manuscript screening.
(3) Journal of Education and Learning Reviews (JELR) — Most recent initiative

JELR represents the Institute’s most recent and advanced journal development, with a focus on education and learning research. The journal was developed to support scholarly discourse on education, learning innovation, pedagogy, educational leadership, and related fields. JELR operates under a double-blind peer review approach and is positioned to support broader international engagement and discoverability through standardized publishing practices.
3) Open Access Commitment, DOI Infrastructure, and Research Integrity
Across its journal initiatives, the Institute has emphasized open access dissemination to ensure that scholarly knowledge can be accessed without subscription barriers. This approach supports wider readership, broader research visibility, and public benefit—particularly in education and applied research fields where practitioners and educators may not have institutional subscription access.
To strengthen scholarly infrastructure and global discoverability, the Institute has also supported standardized publishing elements, including Crossref participation and DOI assignment. DOI usage enhances the traceability of publications, supports citation linking, and contributes to long-term reliability in scholarly communication.
The Institute’s publishing approach also emphasizes publication ethics and research integrity. In its governance and publishing activities, the Institute promotes clear ethical standards consistent with international expectations, including:
- responsible authorship and transparency
- plagiarism prevention and manuscript screening
- conflict-of-interest disclosure
- confidentiality and integrity in peer review
- correction and withdrawal/retraction procedures when necessary
These practices are intended to build trust among authors, reviewers, readers, and indexing/assessment bodies.
4) Institutional Presence and Engagement
