Use of Herbs for Medical Purposes: Attitudes and Behaviors of Local People in Ban Nai Lum, Kantang District, Trang Province

Abstract

            The objective of this research was to explore attitudes and behaviors of the local people in Ban Nai Lum, Kantang District, Trang Province, towards the use of medicinal herbs. The samples were 113 people in Yan Sue Sub-district, Kantang District, Trang Province. Descriptive statistics applied for data analysis included frequency distribution, percentages, mean scores, and standard deviation.

            The result showed that the majority of the participants were female (65.5%), the average age was 55.7 years old, with the educational background mainly at the primary level (78.8%). The majority of them worked as general contractors (88.5%) with an average income of 6,123.30 baht per month. Overall the respondents were not so positive towards the use of herbs for treating diseases. Moreover, the behavior of using herbs was at a medium level.
