Abstract

Willingness to communicate (WTC) in English is essential for English language development. Language learners who are willing to communicate look for chances to communicate in English. The objectives of this study are to investigate and understand willingness to communicate in English of support staff at Innovative Learning Center (ILC), Srinakharinwirot University and to explore the guidelines to develop English communication of support staff at Innovative Learning Center, Srinakharinwirot University.The subjects were eight ILC support staff at Srinakharinwirot University and were selected based on purposive sampling. Research instruments were an in-depth interview and observations. The theoretical framework used in this study was based on the research conducted by MacIntyre et al. (1998). The findings revealed that the causes mainly affecting WTC of ILC support staff were the needs of self-improvement, characteristics and personality and lack of confidence in English communication, all of which were considered as personal motivation and personal variable.
