Abstract

This academic article aims to present the importance of the learning ecosystem, health promotion approaches for preventing obesity in early childhood, and to propose applications of the learning ecosystem to promote health and prevent obesity in early childhood in the digital age. In the current lifestyle of early childhood, equipped with digital technology and various conveniences in daily life, the learning ecosystem factors related to early childhood in the digital age include: 1) lack of quality time within families; 2) changes in parenting methods emphasizing the use of digital technology in child-rearing; 3) accelerated and intensive formal literacy training; 4) lack of discipline training for early childhood; 5) lack of opportunities for free play and interaction with nature; and 6) insufficient space and environment surrounded by nature.

The rising problem of childhood obesity can be reduced if society focuses on the multifaceted causes contributing to early childhood obesity. This issue can be addressed through multidisciplinary collaboration among experts from various fields to find appropriate and integrated approaches for continuous implementation.

Applying a learning ecosystem based on individual curiosity, building knowledge for careers tailored to each person's context, and fostering a shared society from the family to the community level to ensure everyone's happiness is crucial. An effective approach to promoting health and preventing childhood obesity requires collaboration from all sectors and should be both reactive and proactive. This includes initial screening, detailed history taking and health checkups for all young children, educational campaigns to modify eating habits, promoting age-appropriate physical activity and play, and educating and raising awareness among children, parents, guardians, and caregivers for sustainable health promotion and obesity prevention. Furthermore, if parents and guardians set a positive example at home, obesity problems can be avoided, as children learn behaviors within the family that influence their food choices outside the home or at restaurants. This can lead to a reduction in childhood obesity and contribute to a healthier society over time.
