Instructions for Authors
Asian Education and Learning Review (AELR) is committed to publishing high-quality, original research and review articles that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in education and learning. These instructions provide guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to AELR. Authors are strongly encouraged to carefully review these instructions before submitting their work.
Ethical Guidelines and Publication Policy
1) Originality and Authorship: Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described is original, has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. All authors must approve the submission, and tacit or explicit approval must be granted by the responsible authorities where the research was conducted.
2) Copyright: Copyright for published articles remains with the authors. However, by submitting a manuscript, authors grant AELR first publication rights. Authors are responsible for seeking legal action if they believe their copyright has been infringed upon.
3) Plagiarism: AELR has a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. All submissions are screened for plagiarism using appropriate software before being sent to reviewers. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarized material will be rejected. In accordance with COPE guidelines, any original wording taken directly from publications by other researchers must appear in quotation marks with appropriate citations. This also applies to an author’s own previously published work.
4) Citation Practices: Authors are responsible for ensuring accurate and complete citations.
• Material taken from other sources (including the author's own published work) must be clearly cited and, where appropriate, permission obtained.
• Excessive self-citation is discouraged.
• Authors should not copy references from other publications without having read the cited work.
• Preferential citation of one's own, friends', peers', or institution's publications is discouraged.
• Advertisements or advertorial material should not be cited.
5) Data Archiving: Authors are encouraged to deposit their data in a trusted repository and to include a data availability statement in their manuscript.
6) Permissions: If a manuscript includes figures, tables, or lengthy sections of text that have been previously published elsewhere, authors are responsible for obtaining written permission from the copyright holder(s) to reproduce this material in AELR.
7) Archiving and Indexing: Authors permit the publisher to apply a DOI to their articles and to archive them in databases and indexes such as CrossRef, Social Sciences Research Network, Google Scholar, and TCI.
Submission Guidelines
1) Manuscript Preparation
• Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.
• Manuscripts should be organized in the following order: Title Page, Abstract, Keywords, Main Text (Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Results, Conclusion & Discussion), Acknowledgements, References.
2) Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English. Authors are encouraged to use either American or British English consistently throughout the manuscript.
3) Manuscript Length: While there is no strict word limit, papers between 5,000 and 8,000 words (including all parts of the manuscript, such as abstract, text, acknowledgments, and references) are generally preferred. The minimum acceptable word count is 5,000 words.
4) Formatting:
• Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt.
• Paragraph Spacing: Above paragraph - 0 pt.; below paragraph - 0 pt.
• Line Spacing: Single.
• Headings: Times New Roman, 12 pt., Bold.
• Numbers: Use a period as the decimal point (e.g., 3.14). Use a comma to separate numbers of more than three digits into groups of three (e.g., 10,000.47185).
5) Title Page: The title page should include the following:
• Title: Concise and informative, avoiding abbreviations and formulae where possible. A subtitle, if used, should be italicized and centered directly below the main title.
• Authors' Names and Affiliations: The preferred form of an author's name is first name, middle initial(s), and last name. Omit all titles (e.g., Dr., Professor) and degrees (e.g., Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.).
• The affiliation identifies the location of the author(s) at the time the research was conducted. Include a dual affiliation only if two institutions contributed substantial support to the study. Limit affiliations to a maximum of three per author.
• Clearly indicate the corresponding author with an asterisk (*) and provide their email address.
• Example:
Kittisak WONGMAHESAK1 and Thanaporn SRIYAKUL2*
1 Faculty of Political Science, North Bangkok University, Thailand; Publication Research Institute and Community Service, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang, Indonesia; Faculty of Business and Management, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia; kittisak.wongmahesak@gmail.com
2 Faculty of Business Administration, Mahanakorn University of Technology, Thailand; ajbamut@gmail.com (Corresponding Author)
6) Abstract: A concise and factual abstract is required (length between 180 and 250 words). The abstract must be written as a single paragraph, without any subheadings or paragraph breaks.
• For Research Articles: The abstract should include the following four elements:
1. Significance: A brief statement of the importance and relevance of the research topic (why this study is needed).
2. Objective: The specific aim or purpose of the study.
3. Methodology: A brief description of the research methods used.
4. Results and Implications: A summary of the key findings and their implications for theory or practice.
• For Review Articles: The abstract should include the following elements:
1. Context: A brief background on the topic being reviewed and its significance.
2. Purpose: The specific aim of the review (e.g., to synthesize existing knowledge, identify research gaps, propose new perspectives).
3. Approach: A brief description of the methods used to identify and analyze the literature.
4. Conclusions and Implications: A summary of the main findings, key insights, and potential implications for future research or practice.
References should be avoided in the abstract; if essential, they must be cited in full without relying on the reference list.
7) Keywords: Provide 3-5 keywords immediately after the abstract, avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts. Use abbreviations sparingly, only if firmly established in the field.
8) Subdivisions: Divide the article into clearly defined and numbered sections and subsections. Any subsection, ideally, should not be more than 800 words.
9) Equations: Ensure that equations are clear and legible, with text size similar to normal text size. Define all symbols used.
10) Tables:
• Number tables consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text.
• Place a table's caption above the table body and its description below the body.
• Avoid vertical rules.
• Be sparing in the use of tables and ensure that the data presented in tables do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article.
11) Figures and Schemes:
• Number figures consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text.
• Place a figure's caption and description below the figure body.
• Figures must be of high quality with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI.
12) General Style for Tables and Figures:
• Avoid abbreviating the titles of tables, figures, and equations (i.e., Tab. 1, Fig. 2, Eq. 3) in the caption or in running text.
• Avoid writing "the table above/below" or "the figure on page 32," as the position and page number of a table or figure cannot be determined until typesetting.
13) References:
• Cite the work of those individuals whose ideas, theories, or research have directly influenced your work. They may provide key background information, support or dispute your thesis, or offer critical definitions and data. Citation of an article implies that you have personally read the cited work. In addition to crediting the ideas of others that you used to build your thesis, provide documentation for all facts and figures that are not considered common knowledge.
• Each reference cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and each entry in the reference list must be cited in the text. However, two kinds of material are cited only in the text: references to classical works such as the Bible and the Qur’an, whose sections are standardized across editions, and references to personal communication. References in a meta-analysis are not cited in-text unless they are also mentioned in the text.
• When formatting an in-text citation, give, in parentheses, the last name of the author of the cited work and the year it was published. For unpublished or informally published works, give the year the work was produced. Write “in press” in parentheses for articles that have been accepted for publication but that have not yet been published. Do not give a date until the article has actually been published.
• The references used must be no less than 15 items, with an emphasis on referring to articles published in academic journals and avoiding referring to independent studies/thesis and sources from the internet that have not been properly certified or checked for quality and reliability.
Reference Style
1) APA Style (7th Edition): AELR follows the referencing style outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.). Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references conform to APA style.
• APA Style – References
• APA Style – Reference Examples
• APA Style – 7th Edition Common Reference Examples Guide
2) In-Text Citations: Follow APA guidelines for formatting in-text citations, including providing the author's last name and year of publication in parentheses.
3) Reference List: Compile a complete list of references at the end of the manuscript, following APA formatting guidelines. Ensure that all references cited in the text appear in the reference list, and vice versa.
Submission Process
1) Online Submission: Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the journal's website: https://so07.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/AELR/about/submissions
2) Registration: First-time users will need to register an account on the journal's website before submitting a manuscript.
3) File Upload: Follow the instructions on the website to upload your manuscript and any supplementary files.
4) Cover Letter: A cover letter is not required, but authors may choose to include one to briefly introduce their work and highlight its significance.
5) Submission Confirmation: Upon submission, an automatic confirmation email will be sent to the submitting author immediately. If you do not receive this confirmation, please check your spam folder and/or contact the editor.
Peer Review Process
1) Open Peer Review: AELR uses an open peer review system, where both authors and reviewers are aware of each other's identities.
2) Reviewer Selection: The editor will select at least three experts to review the manuscript. Authors may suggest potential reviewers who are knowledgeable in the relevant field; however, the editor reserves the right to make the final selection of reviewers based on expertise, availability, and other relevant criteria.
3) Review Timeline: The review process typically takes between ten and twenty-eight days.
4) Review Outcome: Authors will be notified of the outcome of the review by email.
5) Revision: If the submission is accepted with revisions, authors will be required to revise the manuscript based on the reviewers' comments.
6) Final Approval: The revised manuscript will be reviewed by the editor, and final approval will be granted if the revisions are satisfactory. Following acceptance, the editor may also perform a final edit of the manuscript to ensure the highest quality and suitability for publication in AELR.
Publication and Fees
1) Article Processing Charges (APCs): AELR is self-financed and does not receive funding from any institution/government. Hence, the Journal operates solely through processing charges we receive from the authors and some academic/corporate sponsors. This handling fee is required to meet its maintenance. Being an Open Access Journal, AELR does not collect subscription charges from readers that enjoy free online access to the articles.
2) Submission Fee: Authors are required to pay a submission fee of 3,000 THB to initiate the review process. This fee covers the initial handling of the manuscript and the commencement of the review process by the editorial board and expert reviewers. Please note that this submission fee is non-refundable.
3) Publication Fee Waiver: While normally, publishers charge an article processing fee between 8,000-10,000 THB per article, which varies from journal to journal depending on the journal's ranking, AELR currently requires only the submission fee. This allows authors to benefit from open access publishing upon acceptance.
4) Special APC Waiver (2025-2027): Furthermore, in accordance with Scopus recommendations regarding geographical reach of authorship and/or content, from 2025 to 2027, AELR will waive Article Processing Charges (APCs) for all articles originating from outside of Thailand. This initiative aims to remove financial barriers for international authors and encourage a greater proportion of international submissions to AELR. This is in addition to the standard waivers offered to authors from low-income and lower-middle-income countries.
5) Access to Published Articles: Upon publication, authors can freely download the PDF file of their finalized article and the entire journal issue from the journal's website.
