Symbols Appearing in Korean Series: A Case Study of Nevertheless

Abstract

The objectives of this paper are 1) to analyze the narrative structure of the Korean Series Nevertheless, and 2) to analyze the use of connotation in the Korean Series Nevertheless. This research is a qualitative research, using the concept of analyzing narrative and semiotics project by analyzing text data. The sample group in the study was specific because the images of love were clearly communicated. The results showed that the narrative structure of the Korean Series Nevertheless was based on the narrative theory approach. The story begins and progresses to the point of conflict to the end of the story, but it also employs a strategic nested loops storytelling technique that has open-ended issues to solve puzzles or to solve the latter. The content in this series is about relationships and love from different perspectives. Most of the conflicts that arise are internal conflicts because the content of the relationship is unclear. It's a vague and confusing relationship. The characters themselves have to question all the time in love. The story progresses through a well-rounded narrative that helps the audience to understand the script well. Then, the researcher found that the story inserted important signals to the story. For example, the characters themselves represent various relationships. Color tones that express the character's loving point of view, for example, black represent feelings of mystery, restraint and danger. The purple part represents seduction, charm, and enchantment. Furthermore, the butterfly symbols, including butterfly drawings, butterfly bracelet images, butterfly mirror mobile images, and butterfly tattoos, show the character's love for being a person in love or a woman in love.
